State of Governance in Pakistan (SOGIP) is a 12-month project of the Direct Aid Program (DAP) funded by the Australian Government and managed through the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT) overseas posts. The project focuses on plugging a critical gap in understanding and oversight of the mechanics and dynamics of development at the local (district) level, initially in 21 districts with plans to expand the scope of these interventions to cover all 131 districts of Pakistan in subsequent years. It will include:
Development of an extensive database allowing for in-depth assessment of the governance input and processes as well as an exhaustive socio-political and economic makeup of the target districts
Extensive advocacy campaigns at district, provincial and federal levels for legislative, policy and administrative reforms to alleviate problem areas identified by the assessment
SOGIP will undertake activities to improve:
- CSO and Media access and capacity for evidence-based governance oversight
- Institutional platforms for key stakeholders to voice and engage in evidence-based governance reforms discourse
- Citizens’ oversight of governance, particularly service delivery
- More responsive and transparent governance structure and policies at the district, provincial levels
