Local Action for Democratic and Inclusive Response to COVID-19 was a seven-month project funded by the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) with the objective of contributing towards more inclusive, transparent, and responsive democratic processes, and institutions to tackle COVID-19 and its associated challenges.
The project-supported interventions – undertaken by member organizations of the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) – sought to augment the collective efforts of citizens and the government to address the effects of the COVID-19 through a series of mutually complementing activities including oversight, research, public information and communication, and advocacy. The project also undertook activities to improve the capacity of journalists for responsible and accurate reporting of health and disaster-related issues, and optimal use of available digital tools and social media platforms. The project aimed to identify and facilitate women belonging to socially and economically marginalized segments of the population in registration for their National Identity Cards (NICs) to enable them to access the governmental support for COVID-19 affectees, and other available social safety nets.
